Self-love Affirmation Exercises

Are you struggling to love your body? Do you find yourself constantly criticizing yourself?

Most of us have a love-hate relationship with our body. You may criticize yourself for your perceived flaws, or feel like you're not good enough because you don't look like a supermodel. But what if you could start appreciating your body for all that it does for you?

Positive body affirmations are statements that you make about your body that are positive and empowering. They can be helpful in combating negative body image thoughts and improving self-esteem.

“Starting today, I will love my body. Every inch of it. I will appreciate the strength it gives me, the way it moves and the way it makes me feel. I will accept it just as it is, and I will appreciate the journey that has led me to this moment. I will nourish my body with healthy foods and exercise, and I will listen to its needs. I will treat it with kindness and respect, and I will be grateful for all it does for me”

How to start creating your own self-love affirmations:

1. Clear your mind and think of all the things you most love about your body and yourself

2. Think of all the times others paid you compliments on

3. Think of what makes you. YOU. What makes you special, what makes you stand out

4. Start making a list, don’t think too much about it, whatever comes to mind

How to use affirmations the right way:

When you repeat positive statements about your body out loud, or in your head, you are programming your mind to believe them.

However keep in mind that, all the statements need to be true to you. You need to believe in your own affirmations, so start with something you really feel strongly about you and that you are confident in.

try to use positive statements that are specific to your body. For example, if you are unhappy with your weight, don’t just say “I love my body.” Say something like “I love my body and I am working to improve my health.”

The more you practice the more you can start picking things you would like to work on and that you are not confident about at all, which is the end goal you want to reach for.

Finally: Act as if you already own it and leave your old beliefs in the past.

When you repeatedly tell yourself that you are beautiful/sexy/smart/confident/thin, you will start to believe it. When you tell yourself that you are capable of reaching your goals, you are more likely to do so.

Let’s say you want to have an athlete physique, start switching your mind in believing you already are an athlete. You will see how more mindful you will become of your actions and ultimately your habits.

My 7 favourite affirmations:

  • I exist to make the world a better place

  • My body stays fit and toned without any effort on my part.

  • My dream body is my true form.

  • A goal weight is an arbitrary number; how I feel is what’s important.

  • My life is what I make of it. I have all the power.

  • I know the answers and solutions. I listen to myself and trust my inner judgement.

  • When I look to others to dictate who I should be or how I should look, I reject who I am.

  • I am a magnet for my dreams and desires.

Once you decide to love your body and make loving decisions for your health, you’ll be amazed at how your eating habits improve. You’ll exercise to feel good and celebrate what your body can do.

You’ll be delighted to see the impact on your personal life as well. You’ll find you can be more loving towards other people when you love yourself. Not to mention the boost in confidence that can help you take your relationships and your career to the next level!
